Sarah Thompson wants to make a career in Bollywood

The light-eyed American actress Sarah Thompson, who made her Bollywood debut opposite Ranbir Kapoor portraying his American girlfriend in 'Raajneeti', is seriously considering moving to Mumbai as she wants to make her career in Bollywood.

"I love India and love Indian films. Mumbai reminds me of New York. The same energy and bustle and now I want to be part of it. I want to make a career in Bollywood," revealed the actress recently.

Interestingly, Sarah, who barely had any Hindi dialogues in 'Raajneeti', has recently appointed a Hindi teacher to learn Hindi.

Sarah said, she knows that to start a career in Bollywood “I need to know the language. So I got myself a teacher. Ab mujhe Hindi bolne aati hai."

Sarah has got a list of directors she would like to work with
After making her debut, in critically acclaimed filmmaker Prakash Jha’s high-profile film 'Raajneeti', Sarah now wants to work with other equally talented filmmakers in the industry.

It looks like Sarah has researched well as she has already made a list of directors with whom she would like to work in future.

"I want to meet Vishal Bhardwaj and Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra. In fact I am meeting Rakeysh Mehra shortly. I saw Rang De Basanti'and I said to myself, 'Why couldn't I have played the British girl in the film?' I've seen Vishal Bhardwaj's Kaminey twice. He's another Bollywood director I really want to work with," disclosed the American actress.

Ranbir and Prakash inspired Sarah to make career in Bollywood?
Sarah revealed that Jha and Kapoor’s support inspired her to think about making her career in Bollywood.

"Ranbir really took care of me. He made me feel so comfortable. Not for a minute did I feel like an outsider. If I've decided to make a career in Hindi cinema it's because of Ranbir and Prakashji who never let me feel like an outsider,” said Sarah.

Sarah Says 'Ranbir took care of me'

bollywood_sarah_thompson Sarah Thompson has revealed that her co-star Ranbir Kapoor took such good care of her on set that she is thinking of relocating to Mumbai.
The American actress plays Kapoor's girlfriend in her debut Bollywood role in the political drama Rajneeti.
Thompson, 30, has already appeared in a string of American television dramas including The Sopranos.
In an interview with the Hindustan Times, she said: "When I met [director Prakash Jha] and he narrated the role of Ranbir Kapoor's American girlfriend to me I knew I had to do it.
"Before watching Prakashji's films I thought Bollywood meant singing and dancing. Here was a gritty realistic cinema that I certainly wanted to be part of."
She added that Kapoor and Jha have made her want to try her luck in the Indian film industry.
"Ranbir really took care of me. He made me feel so comfortable. Not for a minute did I feel like an outsider.
"If I've decided to make a career in Hindi cinema it's because of Ranbir and Prakashji who never let me feel like an outsider," she said.

"When I started working on Raajneeti I knew no Hindi. That was okay. I had to play a girl who doesn't know any Hindi and all I had to do was mutter a smattering of bad Hindi."

But now Sarah has got herself a Hindi teacher. "I want to make a career in Bollywood. For that I need to know the language. So I got myself a teacher. Ab mujhe Hindi bolne aati hai."

She gushes, "I love India and love Indian films. Mumbai reminds me of New York. The same energy and bustle and now I want to be part of it."

This is Sarah's third visit to India. "I came the first time to India to shoot in Bhopal for Raajneeti and then I came to dub for the film. Now I'm back for the release, and I'm nervous and anxious, yeah! I want to do more Bollywood films, and yes I am shifting to Mumbai."

This time Sarah has come laden with a wish-list of Bollywood directors she wants to work with. "I want to meet Vishal Bhardwaj and Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra. In fact I am meeting Rakeysh Mehra shortly. I saw Rang De Basanti'and I said to myself, 'Why couldn't I have played the British girl in the film?' I've seen Vishal Bhardwaj's Kaminey twice. He's another Bollywood director I really want to work with."

Sarah admits she had not heard of Prakash Jha when he offered her the role in Raajneeti.

"But when I met him and he narrated the role of Ranbir Kapoor's American girlfriend to me I knew I had to do it. He gave me his Gangaajal and Apaharan to watch. And that's how I was introduced to a totally new facet of Bollywood," she said.

"Before watching Prakashji's films I thought Bollywood meant singing and dancing. Here was a gritty realistic cinema that I certainly wanted to be part of," she added.

The starry-eyed but grounded young actress says she has links with India.

"My parents have visited India many times, not just short touristic sightseeing visits but lengthy exploratory trips. Our home is filled with an aura and souvenirs from India. Me and my two sisters grew up hearing fascinating stories about India," she said.

Sarah says she has her parents blessings in making a career in Bollywood.

"If I do manage to make a career here my parents would be the happiest. Yes I do miss them when I am in India. Hopefully when I shift they'd come and visit me in Mumbai. I love Mumbai, just roaming around places like Colaba Causeway I feel so much at home," Sarah said.

As part of her background research for Raajneeti Sarah read up as much as she could on the internet on Indian politics. She was also made to watch Saawariya by Prakash Jha to understand her co-star's acting style.

And Sarah was hooked!

"Before working with Ranbir I had seen only Saawariya and thought he was outstanding. Then when we reached Bhopal, Katrina and Prakashji took me to watch Wake Up, Sid. And I was like... oh my God!"

"When I met Ranbir the first thing I blurted was how much I liked him in Wake Up, Sid. Then I watched all his films. That's how good I found him."

The American girl in Bollywood just can't stop raving about Ranbir. "Ranbir really took care of me. He made me feel so comfortable. Not for a minute did I feel like an outsider. If I've decided to make a career in Hindi cinema it's because of Ranbir and Prakashji who never let me feel like an outsider," she said.

Sarah Thompson Kane (born October 25, 1979; Los Angeles, California) is an American actress. She is most widely known for the hit comedy Cruel Intentions 2 with Robin Dunne and Amy Adams and Keri Lynn Pratt. Sarah has enjoyed much television work: she joined the cast of 7th Heaven in its tenth season as "Rose", Simon's fiancee; she was well known for her role as Eve in Angel on The WB, during that show's fifth season; and she was cast as a character on ABC Family's Wildfire.

She has also appeared in a number of movies, including Malibu's Most Wanted, Dear Me, Brutal, Broken Windows, Hansie, A Christmas Proposal, Taking Chance, Brooklyn's Finest, Break and The Pink Conspiracy. Sarah thinks his edgy style of direction is similar to that of Martin Scorsese. To prepare for her role, she took Hindi lessons from December 2008 onwards. Sarah Thompsons Bollywood Aspirations!

Bollywood has always attracted foreign actors because of its versatility. Starting from the era of Raj Kapoor, who brought the Russian actress Kseniya Ryabinkina for his movie Mera Naam Joker, to Rakesh Roshan, who has brought Mexican actress Barbara Mori for his latest flick Kites, Indian filmmakers have also offered good roles to the foreign talents.

Recently, in Prakash Jha’s much talked movie Rajneeti, we have seen another foreign actress, this time American Sarah Thompson, playing one of the key roles as Ranbir’s love interest.

Now, it is heard that the American actress was so impressed byBollywood films that she wants to make her career here in the Mumbai based film industry. In fact, she is polishing her Hindi with proper training in the language.

Sarah said, “In Rajneeti, I played a girl, who can’t speak Hindi. My ignorance of Hindi in real life was acceptable in that case. But, to further my career here, I need to learn the language. So, I am getting trained under a teacher, ‘ab mujhe Hindi bolne aati hai’."

She added, “This is my third visit to India, the country which I love so much. I am reminded of New York, whenever I visit Mumbai; the same enthusiasm and hustle bustle. My first visit to the country was during the shooting of a scene of Rajneeti in Bhopal. Then I came here for dubbing and now I am here for the release of the film. I want to do some more Bollywoodprojects, so I’m shifting to Mumbai.”

The actress has already prepared her list of Indian directors, with whom she aspires to work. Sarah informed, “I am interested to work with Vishal Bhardwaj and Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra. I am going to meet Mehra very soon, whose Rang De Basanti, has left me spellbound. I wish I could essay the role of the British girl in the film. I have already watched Vishal’s film Kaminey twice.”

Sharing her experience of working with Ranbir Kapoor in Rajneeti, she seemed to impressed by the young heartthrob. She said Ranbir has been very supportive throught the film’s shooting and she loved her work in Saawariya and Wake Up Sid!
